English as a Second Language / English for Academic Purpose
The purpose of the ESL/EAP program is to provide international and domestic students who speak English as a second language with instruction and support that will enable them to improve their English language skills.
There are three levels – Pre-intermediate, Intermediate and Advanced. At the Advanced level, students have the opportunity to take credit courses of their choice in consultation with an academic advisor. When students successfully complete the Advanced level, they receive a Certificate of Standing in English Language Proficiency, which allows them to enter post-secondary programs at St. Lawrence College without further English language testing.
Students will also have the opportunity to learn about Canadian culture and the local area through meaningful experiences in the community, which will include field trips to various historical and cultural sites. Students receive a total of 25 hours of instruction a week, which includes 4 hours of computer lab time.
